The cable from the switching station a wind farm to a substation in Hessia passes through two areas where cable clustering occurs. Due to their thermal interaction, these cable clusters result in a reduction of the continuous current carrying capacity. The aim of the project was to verify whether the desired feed-in power of the wind farm can be transmitted via the cable system. If the current carrying capacity of the cable is too low, possible solutions are proposed and investigated by calculation.
The Cableizer software tool was used to determine the cable’s load capacity for different installation variants (position of the cables, pipe dimension/material, shield earthing on both sides or on one side, etc.) in accordance with IEC 60853 1 and IEC 60287. For this purpose, the medium-voltage cables to be investigated were modeled based on their geometry and, on the other hand, the ground with its thermal properties was simulated on the basis of the submitted subsoil expertise.
